Actually, most pet owners have no issues about looking like their pet, says dog’s best friend, Dr. Stanley Coren. They “feel pretty good” when attention is drawn to the resemblance — “most owners tend to view dogs as they view their children, so they’re flattered.

“We’re inclined to pick dogs that tend to have the same general facial effects as ours” — long-haired women usually pick dogs with long floppy ears, while short-haired women pick pricked- ear dogs, says the renowned canine expert, professor at the University of British Columbia and author of How Dogs Think and How To Speak Dog. And also, since dog owners tend to pick dogs to fit their lifestyle, “a lean runner will probably pick an active lean dog to run with him; a portly banker maybe a bulldog.”

And a study done at the University of California confirms the definite physical similarity between animals and owner, especially when it comes to purebred dogs.
