Dogs and Chocolate Do Not Go Hand in Hand

March 31, 2006 by pet-admin

One of our favorite treats, is very poisonous for our Dogs
Airedale Terrier

Dogs and chocolate do not go hand in hand! The novice dog owner will probably not know this making the risk of them unintentionally poisoning their dog quite great.

Who can ignore those sad begging puppy dog eyes that just seem to gaze right into one’s soul saying, “oh just a little piece????”

The effects of chocolate on a dog are minimal in small doses but overtime can become quite extensiv due to the presence of theobromine, which is a toxan for dogs that ingest it. Canine ingestion of a good amount of chocolate can lead to anything from renal deficiencies, diabetes, and blindness, to cardiac arrest, increased urination, and a host of other unwanted ailments.

There are healthy alternatives to offer your dog regarding treats. Remember if your dog never has it, then he does not know it exists therefore, he can not miss it. A chopped carrot may look bland to you, but your dog will not see it that way and will love it, and you!
