Puppy left for death in a toilet
July 12, 2006 by pet-admin
Last Wednesday, passers-by in Thompson Park heard wailing so loud they thought it was a cat in distress.
The noise led the woman and her son into a cubicle in the gents toilets to find the black and tan puppy zipped up in a new suitcase.
RSPCA Insp Peta Newsome responded to their call and arrived to find the rottweiller-kelpie cross hungry, dehydrated and still wailing from the trauma.
Dumping of animals is fairly common but usually people just tuck them in a box in the bushland but don’t actually go out and purchase a suitcase and towel and leave them in a toilet block.
The maximum penalty for abandoning an animal is $5500 and/or six months in jail.
If death results the penalty is $22,000 and/or two years’ imprisonment.
