Doodle Bug broke his front wrist (1 bone)

My dog Doodle Bug is a 95 lb lean cross between shepherd/walker
hound/dane … broke his front wrist (1 bone) 6 weeks ago.  Although he is out
of his cast he won’t put his foot down and try to walk on it.  It was
xray’d and found healed but he chooses to use 3 legs now.  How can I
rehab him.  I walk him on soft ground, massage his shoulder and leg as
well as encourage a little weight to start him going.  He whimpers at
times when you touch his upper leg but walks/limps when he isn’t thinking
about it.  What can I do to help him?  It bothers me to think he isn’t
enjoying his play time and walks as it tires him out doing the 3 legged
thing.  Am I rushing it?
