Hypoallergenic Dog Breeds - Dogs For Allergy Sufferers
June 28, 2007 by pet-admin · Leave a Comment
Loose skin flakes, known as dander, is what causes the allergic reaction to dogs for some people. Most people think it is the loose hair which they are reacting to, but it is actually the dander. There is a solution - a hypoallergenic dog. A dog with minimal dander which won’t cause an allergic reaction in people who usually have allergies to dogs.
There’s no such thing as 100% hypoallergenic dog, because all dogs release some dander. However, the following breeds listed shed very lightly and also release much less dander from their skin than other breeds:
# Bedlington Terrier
# Bichon Frise
# Chinese Crested
# Maltese
# Irish Water Spaniel
# Portuguese Water Dog
# Kerry Blue Terrier
# Poodle (toy, miniature and standard)
# Schnauzer (miniature, standard and giant)
# Xoloitzcuintli
These breeds will probably not trigger an allergic reaction. The Chinese Crested hairless variety and the Xoloitzcuintli both have no hair. As well as being the most hypoallergenic of all dog breeds, these dogs make very efficient hot water bottles.
Once you decide which of these dogs suits you, spend some time around the breed you’ve chosen to see whether you react. Spend a few hours in the home of the breeder, handling the dog and being in it’s environment to see if you still have an allergic reaction. Chances are you won’t.
Keep in mind that some people react to dog saliva when they are licked by a dog. Unfortunately, if you’re allergic to dog saliva these breeds may not help you, because although they don’t shed much dander, they will still lick.

Cat Behavior- Cat Fights
June 28, 2007 by pet-admin · Leave a Comment
Cats fights can happen for many reasons. As an owner it can be very distressing to see your cats fight each other. Fortunately there are some simple measures you can take to prevent it from happening again.
There are lots of reasons for two cats to fight. One of the most common reasons is a new cat that was introduced into the house fighting with the older cats. This a normal response, because cats were once wild animals and needed to defend their territories from other cats.
Dogs live in packs so a social hierarchy is a normal thing. Cats normally live life alone not in packs so when you put a bunch together in a house there is bound to be some stress. It is normal for new animals to fight or at least show some aggression towards each other but there are some things you can do.
When introducing new cats into your house, try to isolate the new cat in a room by itself for a couple of days so it gets used to the smell of the house. Also by keeping the cats separated by a door they can smell each other from underneath the door which allows them to get used to each others scents.
The Common Cat Health Teeth Problems
June 27, 2007 by pet-admin · Leave a Comment

Teeth are very important to cats. If they lose their teeth, they have no way of eating. A cat’s natural instinct is to chew their food as where if a person loses their teeth they can puree food for nutrition. Checking your cat’s teeth regularly and keeping them clean should prevent breakage and lost of teeth. Proper check ups at the vet clinic where they look at the teeth will help if you cannot check the teeth yourself.
If the cat develops bad breath or has a strong order coming from the mouth, they may have an infection of the gum or teeth. In some cases, accumulation of food particles between the teeth will cause an infection and the same if food gets under the gum. Cats normally do not like to open their mouth for cleaning or anything else, if you suspect a problem, a veterinarian will clean the teeth and prescribe an antibiotic if necessary.

Dogs are likely characters to enjoy the summer as much as humans. They like to sunbathe, swim, camp and even hike. Many factors of summer, especially the element of heat, can affect dogs like it does us. It can be devastating. Following tips to keep your dog safe and comfortable in the summer is much like the tips we follow for ourselves. Below are some basic tips to keep your dog safe.
-Always have plenty of clean, fresh water available to prevent dehydration.
-If the air quality index is unsafe for you, it is unsafe for your pet. Watch your pet closely while he is outdoors.
-If your dog stays outside while you are at work, always have plenty of water available, shelter from the sun, and shelter from summertime storms.
-If possible, a doggie door is the ultimate solution for your pet. He can escape into the house or garage if it gets unbearably hot and humid or if it is thundering and lightening. However, remember to make sure your doggie door is secure so that no one other than your pet can go through it.
-If you have a pool, protect your dog just as you would children from entering the pool when you are not around. Dogs can drown just as easily as children or even adults.
-Always keep an eye on your dog when he is swimming. Place some sort of bright article or flag at the steps of your pool high enough so that your pet can see it. Remember, they hold their head up when doggie paddling. This flag or article of clothing visually indicates to them where the steps are. When they swim they sometimes get tired and even exhausted and can become disoriented and anxious. Train them to swim towards the article in which you placed as the direction towards the steps, just in case they happen to get in the pool when you are not around. This could save their life.

People want to get the very best they can when purchasing products. They research all of the alternatives and select what they feel is the best suited for their needs whether a car, washer/dryer or a pet.
In selecting a puppy, many follow the same protocol to determine which breed would be the best for their family.
They go to the library and take out books about particular breeds. They will call their local Veterinarians and Dog Trainers to ask for suggestions or recommendations on particular aspects of a certain dog’s characteristics. They attend dog shows to meet with and speak to various breeders. This selection process many take several months until the perfect pet is found.
